About the Consortium

A group of concerned Monterey residents

The Save Tarpy Flats Consortium was created to prevent development which exceeds the state’s affordable housing mandate and which will overburden both the environment and infrastructure of this area. The consortium’s mission is to preserve the environment and character of Tarpy Flats for the benefit of the entire Monterey region.

Why we formed

When news emerged of a proposed high-density housing development on the open lands of Tarpy Flats, it struck a nerve in our community. Neighbors began talking, asking questions, and realizing the need to take action.  What started as informal conversations quickly became a coordinated effort to protect what makes Monterey special. The Tarpy Flats Consortium gives a voice to residents who believe that our landscape and community cannot sustain the proposed high-density development.

What we do

We’re actively engaged on multiple fronts. We’re gathering expert input, organizing community meetings, and reviewing the legal and environmental implications of the proposed project. We’re speaking with elected officials, submitting public comments, and working to raise awareness through outreach, signage, and media. This is a pivotal moment—and we’re doing everything we can to ensure our voices are heard loud and clear.
